BREAKING NEWS -- It's been a busy day for the Phillies. First their clan of mysterious owners sold the team to Philadelphia. Then, the state of Florida acquired the Phillies organization from Philadelphia, in exchange for cash to save SEPTA.
"After the Marlins took two of three games from us this week, it became apparent they pretty much owned us anyway," said Phillies General Manager Ed Wade.
As part of the deal, Philadelphia agreed to send Wade to Ontario to live in a remote mountain shack.
Mayor John Street called this move a lifesaver for his city. "We have removed the bourdon of hosting the worst team in this great sport's history, and we'll have public transportation funding secured for another six months, givertake," he said.
Street added that he plans to promote the local independent league team the Camden Riversharks to the major leagues to play at Citizens Bank Park. "There may actually be an increase in the level of play," he said.
The Florida Phillies will share Miami's Dolphin Stadium, and play when the Marlins are out of town. Florida Marlins and now Phillies owner Jeffrey Loria said he's looking forward to further matchups between the division rivals. "We're thinking of lending the Phillies a couple of our Marlins pitchers to make it more fair, so it should be fun," he said.
